Our System Security

  • When you log on to our Internet banking service you are always in a secure session - you can tell this by looking for the padlock symbol in the bottom right hand corner of your web browser. This means that your personal information will be encrypted before it leaves your PC so that no one else can read it. Whilst the data is in transit we use 128-bit Secure Socket Layer (SSL) encryption, which is the industry standard.
  • When you log on to Internet banking you will see a greeting message including details of when you last logged on. This is a security feature - if the time and date shown is not the last time you used Internet banking then someone else may have accessed your account(s). In this case, check your account(s) carefully and contact us immediately on 0845 3000 116 (+44 20 7649 9437 from overseas).
  • If after logging on to our Internet banking service you do not use the service for 10 minutes, you will automatically be logged off. This is to ensure that if you have left your PC or have forgotten to log off, the opportunity for anyone else to access your accounts is reduced. However to eliminate this risk please always ensure you never leave your PC unattended whilst logged on and always remember to log off when you have finished your banking.
  • When you log on to Internet banking after entering your User ID and Password we will only ask you for 3 characters of your Memorable Information, selected from drop down lists using your mouse or the tab and arrow keys on your keyboard. This approach prevents any viruses designed to capture keystrokes, from obtaining your log on details. Please remember that it's vital you do not share your Password or Memorable Information with anybody, because by doing this you will have compromised your own security and it will be a breach of the terms and conditions of the service.
  • If you make a number of incorrect attempts to log on to Internet banking, we will disable your access to the service as a security measure - to reactivate your access please click on Forgotten Password and Memorable Information on the log on page, following the on screen instructions.
