Chip and PIN in the UK
Since 14 February 2006, all card transactions in the UK require your PIN number.
Over the past couple of years, many of you have got used to using your PIN number in shops and restaurants to authorise payments from debit and credit cards. However, the roll-out of the chip and PIN technology is progressing at different rates around the world, so you may not yet have used this way of making purchases.
If you are visiting the UK and you have a Lloyds TSB debit or credit card (or any Visa or Mastercards issued by other UK banks), you should be aware that if you forget or don’t know the PIN on your chip and PIN card, you will no longer be allowed to sign for purchases in shops and businesses in the UK which use the system.
If you intend to visit the UK and don't know your debit card PIN, please contact us. In some cases, we may also need to issue you with a new card.
