What exchange rate will I get?

By making the payment in the currency of the country you are sending it to, you will have certainty over the exchange rate that will be used. Otherwise you won't know what exchange rate is going to be used by the receiving bank.

When you make a payment online you will be told the indicative amount that will leave your account or that the recipient will receive.

What do I need to provide?

  • You'll need to give us accurate information about the person you are sending it to. This includes:
    • Their Bank Identifier Code (BIC), SWIFT code or national bank code.
    • Their bank account number or International Bank Account Number (IBAN).
    • Their full name.
    • Their bank full address.
    • BIC and IBAN are similar to a bank account number and sort code in the UK and are compulsory for payments to EEA countries. You will need to get this from the person receiving the payment.

How do I create a new international recipient?

To create a new international recipient, you'll need to provide us with their bank account number and the full name and address of their bank.

For payments to the EU (European Union and EEA (European Economic Area), you'll also need to provide the BIC (Bank Identifier Code)/Swift code and the IBAN (International Bank Account Number).

What is a BIC/SWIFT code?

BIC stands for Bank Identifier Code. It is a unique code that identifies a particular bank in a specific country. It helps us process transactions efficiently and quickly, and payments to the European Union and EEA (European Economic Area) cannot be made without it.

What is an IBAN?

IBAN stands for International Bank Account Number. It is a unique code that identifies an individual bank account. We won't be able to process your payment to the European Union and EEA (European Economic Area) without an IBAN.

IBANs are a mandatory requirement for payments to the European Union and EEA (European Economic Area). Please note that IBANs can have a different number of characters.

Where can I find a recipient's BIC/SWIFT code?

You'll need to ask your recipient for the BIC/SWIFT code of their bank.

When will I be able to make an international payment to my new recipient?

Payments to new recipients can be made as soon as their details have been set up.
